My name is Sarah Bankole. I recently completed my bachelor’s degree in Physiology with a first-class honor. Though I have always been fascinated by computers and computer technology, I never really liked operating computers when I was much younger because I believed it to be too complex for me. However, in 2022, my fears were no longer enough to hold me back from trying to learn a tech skill and ultimately discovering myself. So, when I saw the application for Cybergirls3.0 later that same year on Confidence Staveley’s IG post, I registered with so much hope that I would get picked and I did.
The biggest challenge I had during the fellowship was combining it with my final year in school and trying my best to maintain excellence in both which I am glad I was able to achieve with the help of God, a lot of discipline and continuous encouragement from some of my friends and family. Now that I look back, it was tough but worth it!
It’s amazing that I was a total novice in Cybersecurity when I joined the fellowship, but I gained so much knowledge and learned a lot that has helped me in my journey so far, especially during the interview for the role I’m currently in. I also learned a lot about soft skills that I believe has been very helpful and impactful in my career and life.
Even though I was in the GRC path during the fellowship, I’m currently interning as a SOC Analyst at Digiss LLC, and this is thanks to the solid foundation I have from the prerequisite stage of the training.
Overall, life after the fellowship has been exciting as I have been furthering my learning and equipping myself for my career in Cybersecurity. I’m very excited about everything I know the future holds.
