“How I found My Path as a CyberGirl and Achievd My Dream of Working in Data Protection and Privacy”

Emily Ahebwa

“I’ve always been interested in technology and fascinated by the ways that it can be used to improve our lives. However, I also recognized that there were serious security risks associated with the increasing use of technology. I wanted to help make the digital world a safer place, especially for women facing cyberbullying, and that’s why I decided to pursue a career in cybersecurity.

I learned about the CyberGirls Fellowship program from LinkedIn. I was impressed by the program’s focus on empowering women to pursue careers in cybersecurity, and I knew that it would be a great fit for me. The biggest challenge I faced during the CyberGirls Fellowship was managing my time between work, business, and the program. I was also just learning about cybersecurity, so the technical aspects of the program were very challenging. However, I was determined to succeed, so I dedicated extra hours each day to studying. I also learned to prioritize tasks and create a schedule that allowed me to make the most of my time. The CyberGirls Fellowship has prepared me for my first job in cybersecurity by providing me with hands-on experience and practical skills that I could apply in a real-world setting.

Through the program, I learned about important topics like data protection and privacy, information security, and network security. I also gained experience with industry-standard tools like Nessus and Metasploit. One of the most valuable pieces of knowledge that I gained from the CyberGirls Fellowship was an understanding of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), a set of EU data protection regulations, and ISO. This knowledge was directly relevant to my internship in data protection and privacy. Since completing the CyberGirls Fellowship, I have been more confident in my ability to land a job in cybersecurity.

I am currently interning at Stelth Consult as an IT support officer and Cyber Security Analyst, where I have gained valuable experience in the areas of data protection and privacy. My skills and expertise make me an asset to any organization looking to improve its security posture.”
